Taking Control With My #SpendingDiary

Have I ever told you how large my family is? Nope, well pull up a chair buttercup, grab yourself some popcorn (microwavable bagged popcorn is not my preference, but its your choice) and come and take a look into my large family life.

I'm Jada, 24 years young ;) just in case you didn't know, and I'm a Reading born and raised lass, still living here now! I'm my Father's 5th born, and my Mum's second! I have three brothers, two elder and one younger, and three sisters, two elder and one younger.

I have one child, who's Spud, and five nephews, my Dad has his very own, six-a-side football team, no dollies to date, but three of my siblings are still parentless. One will be for a few years to come yet at the very least as she is just approaching the teenage years towards the end of this year.

Above is my family tree, I have two lot's of grandparents (like most people), my dad's parents, Nanny and Grandad L, and my mum's parents Nan and Grandad J. My Grandad J sadly died when I was eight years old, three days after my eight birthday to be precise in 1998, and my Nanny L died six days before my birthday this April (2014).

My dad met his first wife who I shall call J on here, and had three children with her, my two elder brothers Dean and Paul, and one of my elder sister's Chelsea. My dad and J separated, got divorced and a few years later my dad met my mum.

My mum and dad have three children together, Paula, my other elder sister, me and Jamie - my younger brother. My parents separated when I was younger and both went their own separate ways. My mum met her partner who I shall call G on here, around seven years after my parents split and my mum had my little sister who I will call baby G.

As you can imagine, Christmas is a very expensive time of the year for most of us, coming from a big family does not help the spending of Christmas, I've not even included my aunts and uncles, my cousins, and my brother and sister in laws!

Birthday's seem to happen at least once a month, add in friends and children's of friends birthdays and it can seem every couple of weeks it's someone's birthday! On top of all the gifts I have to purchase, I have a child to care for, a home to run, and lots more in between.

I made a new year resolution to start to save more money and to try to be more thrifty throughout the year including over the festive period! To help with my spending habits, I purchased the Organised Mum Budget Book, a Shopping List/Meal Planner booklet and a book from The Wealth Chef: How To Make Your Money Work Harder, So You Don't Have To.

So armed with these items, I'm hoping to stop the burning holes that keep appearing in my purse, and instead, feel the weight of the pennies saved!
I'm also researching online help after reading the article on Wilson Field, it's not nice consoling debt, but it's definitely one step closer to reaching a debt free goal!

I'd love to hear of any thrifty money saving tips you have! Every penny saved is a penny towards a pound!

Jada x
